Kelawali (Banana Seller) is inspired by the women who sell bananas and fruit on busy streets and market corners. Often balancing baskets, stalls, and family life, these women form an essential part of everyday urban rhythms. The painting celebrates their resilience, dignity, and determination. Within The Stories Told About Us, the banana seller stands as another unsung heroine — representing the countless women whose labour sustains households, communities, and traditions, yet whose stories are rarely centred or celebrated.
