Lady of the Sea is part of The Stories Told About Us series, where familiar female archetypes are revisited and gently reimagined. Inspired by mermaid folklore, the painting is built through layered shades of blue in a cut-work, lino-like visual language that echoes the movement of water and tides. I so want to believe that if we look close enough there exist Merpeople in our wild waters!
Rather than a mythical figure defined by legend, this mermaid exists in her own space — calm, fluid, and self-possessed. The work reflects on the sea as a place of depth, mystery, and quiet autonomy, where stories shift and identities remain beautifully unfixed.
